Kawa Revolving Sushi: A Must Try for Sushi Lovers and Robot Enthusiasts

This past week, my fiance and I were finally able to eat at Beavercreek’s hot new sushi joint, and we both really enjoyed our experience. Originally having been announced to open in late March of this year, this was not our first time visiting the restaurant’s location, but it was our first time since its actual opening early in July. Admittedly, a quick Google search could have saved us the trouble those two or three times– and now know it was worth the wait.

Pictured is a variety of sushi that, while we did not try it ourselves, certainly stood out to us. Description: a small plate with a clear, plastic lid over it sits atop a white conveyor belt. The plate holds two pieces of sushi slathered with an orange sauce, served and topped with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Whether it was the unique sushi pictured above, or authentic, traditional dishes, the revolving options all looked appetizing. Confession time: I am actually not really an enjoyer of anything that tastes like it came from the sea. It is unfortunate, but no matter how many types of fish and seaweed dishes I try, the taste continues to bother me. When I eat avocado rolls, I enjoy them– except for that small, weird taste of seaweed which throws it all off for me. I love visiting Fusian, where spring rolls can be filled with chicken for the ultimate abuse of the traditional sushi medium, but other than that, I seldom enjoy sushi.

Regardless, I love to visit new places, even if there’s not a lot for me there. I also have Celiac disease, so I am used to having limited options in general. Most importantly, though, my fiance adores all things seafood, and I can get creative with my meals anywhere. At Kawa, there are many options other than sushi, though most of them will not be seen on the revolving sushi belt.

If you want another type of dish– or even just to order a plate of a sushi that just passed by and you feel too impatient to wait for it to pass again– there is a handy little tablet installed at each table, where customers can order anything that they have in stock. There were various types of cooked meats available, along with ramen bowls, sides, and desserts. I ended up ordering two plates of mochi, because it was so delicious.

For the majority of Kawa’s customers, though, the sushi is the main attraction, and it is worthwhile. My fiance tried many types of sushi, and enjoyed all of it. He even said that it was “the best piece of eel” that he had ever had, which is saying a lot, since eel is his favorite meat. So, whether you take off the revolver, like he did, or order only off the tablet, like I did, you can still have an enjoyable dining experience.

This restaurant feels like it was thought up during COVID, because it would honestly be possible to have a perfect Kawa dining experience without saying more than three words to a single person outside of your party. The first location opened in 2024, so it is clear that the founders took personal safety practices into consideration when they finalized things, which is important for a revolving restaurant.

A feature of Kawa that I was pleasantly surprised by were all of the robots. I knew there would be a machine to make the sushi revolve, but I never imagined that everything would be delivered via robot, but they all had a unique style. Some food-delivery carts looked like trains, others like futuristic-looking cars, running along tracks above the conveyer belts. For drinks, there is a robot that navigates between the tables, playing a jazzy tune, and stops at the correct table, instructing you to take your drink. All of it is very fun, and creates a cool, high-tech feel, in my opinion.

Beavercreek’s Kawa Revolving Sushi has been open for about a month now, and if you have yet to visit, you definitely should. It is a unique restaurant and dining experience, and I recommend trying it for yourself.
